Ozone is the most powerful oxidant available for water treatment, and has long been considered the best disinfectant.

Figure 18 shows the relative positions of various oxidizing/reducing pairs; thanks to its high oxidation potential, we quickly discovered the many facets of this reagent, which enables :

• improve the coagulation of certain waters;

• oxidize dissolved salts (Fe-Mn);

• aerate the water ;

• eliminate molecules that generate color and taste/odors;
