On October 8, 2015, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) published a scientific opinion on the risks associated with the production and consumption of insects as food or feed. EFSA concluded that "the possible occurrence of microbiological hazards in processed proteins derived from insects is expected to be comparable to their occurrence in other protein sources of animal origin"
