The most critical parameter affecting quality during oil extraction is the temperature of the crude oil entering the empty (air-filled) storage tank. Typically, the temperature of the crude oil at the stripper outlet is around 105°C. To minimize oxidation, the crude oil must be cooled to below 65 C and preferably to 35-40 C before being discharged into the tank. In addition, the filling pipe should be installed with the exhaust just above the base of the tank, to minimize oil aeration (figure
