5. Strategies for obtaining and controlling a desired polymorphic variety

For a system with several polymorphs, two situations are possible, depending on whether the desired phase is the most stable polymorph or a metastable polymorph.

The strategy to be adopted to obtain the desired phase relies mainly on avoiding heterogeneous primary nucleation, which is a sometimes "erratic" mechanism that can produce a solid phase different from the desired phase (see § 3.2
