Unlike chlorine derivatives, which are essentially obtained by chlorination reactions with chlorine (substitution of a hydrogen atom or addition to a compound with a double or triple bond $\text{CCC}$ ), fluorine derivatives can only exceptionally be manufactured from elemental fluorine.
