Fluorinations

As previously mentioned, fluorination of a hydrogenated compound with elemental fluorine is a very violent reaction, difficult to control and not very selective. Numerous methods and techniques designed to improve reaction control have been proposed [4] :

• dilution of fluorine with an inert gas (nitrogen, etc.);

• dilution of the organic product to be fluorinated with an inert solvent;

• low-temperature fluorination ;

• continuous processes with concentration and temperature gradients.
