INTRODUCTION
First manufactured by E. Fisher in 1864, trichloroethylene reached its peak as a degreasing solvent (its main use) in the 1970s. In recent years, in view of regulations on volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions and, more recently, its R45 classification (may cause cancer), we have seen a steady decline in demand for trichloroethylene in emissive uses, with a real reorganization of global producers.
