13. Boolean random models
The first articles on the Boolean model appeared in the middle of the 20th century (e.g. Solomon, 1953). The name was given by G. Matheron.
Boolean models deal with the spatial distributions in
of random compact sets not reduced to points (e.g. balls) whose centers constitute a Poisson random point field (generally stationary), but derived from the same elementary geometric object (e.g. the unit ball) by a simple probability law (e.g. the radius follows a Gaussian probability distribution).
