INTRODUCTION
Several hundred years old, general mechanics is still one of the pillars of all scientific studies. At the same time, general mechanics has enjoyed a revival, not because of new discoveries, but because of new fields of application such as robotics and space mechanics, and because of increased ease of use due to developments in computing and numerical calculation. It is with this in mind that these articles have been written, presenting general mechanics as a discipline with a wide field of application, efficient and usable, and taking the view that the reader is always ready to admit a basic scientific investment... but with a view to applications. In this introduction, the author sets out to provide a general explanation of the approach to be followed, which will serve as a point of reference for navigating through the many ramifications of a discipline that has been built up over several centuries.
