2. Hydrogen storage by adsorption
Hydrogen adsorption is a physical surface phenomenon that occurs when gas is exposed to a solid. The gas density at the solid surface increases in the vicinity of an interface (cf. figure 3). This increase is due to the interactions between adsorbate (gas) and adsorbent (solid), which are of the van der Waals type and comprise an attractive term and a repulsive term that depend on the gas-solid distance (physisorption phenomenon).
