Aesthetics must be functional. It must facilitate the transmission of the message. The diagram must attract the eye, then guide and interest it. To make reading more pleasant and therefore more effective, you can play on the following elements.

• Relief

  This is achieved by adjusting the size of the symbols and the nature and thickness of the connecting lines. The aim is to avoid monotony by highlighting important parts of the diagram. Relief should never be used unnecessarily, as it can interfere with perception.
