The project management institute defines a standard for project management by structuring it in several stages:
initiation ;
planning ;
execution ;
monitoring and control ;
closing.
The end of each stage of a project is marked by milestones to which correspond deliverables that are presented and validated during project reviews.
Defining the scope of the project gives stakeholders a shared understanding of the project and its objectives.
