3. Identify user needs
This is the crucial stage of the study. The entire functional analysis (FA), and everything that follows from it, is based on what you remember at this point.
It's vital to fully understand what the user wants, with all its nuances, unspoken meanings, implicit notions or notions linked to the field of application, and so on.
Don't forget to integrate the notion of regulations, standards and laws right from the start. They are not part of the customer's needs. Your product may not be feasible in France for legal reasons, but only in Germany.
User requirement: "gas lighter, flint, refillable".
The user wants a light, easy-to-use, portable object that can be stowed away in a pocket, operated with one hand to light the fire in the fireplace, light a candle or other object....
