Is measurement a prerequisite for initiating a Lean project?
Measurement is used to assess progress. Although it is not absolutely essential, it does have the definite advantage of assessing the initial situation and verifying that the company is heading in the right direction. As the old saying goes "You don't know what you don't measure".
Can a Lean project be launched in a meeting room?
Initiating a Lean project requires the participation of operational staff, as it is in the field that performance is largely determined. There's nothing like a working group in the operational field, what Japanese manufacturers call "Gemba", the place where value is created.
