2. Statistical tools for estimating the repeatability and reproducibility of a measurement or test method
At this point, it's useful to understand two things.
Repeatability and reproducibility (whether overall or intermediate) are random phenomena quantified by standard deviations.
Repeatability is a measurement "background noise" that will always be present. To reduce its impact, the only solution is to average measurements.
2.1 A few statistics
A random phenomenon is described in terms of a probability law (which allows us to associate the probability of occurrence with one or more possible values). This probability law can be :
