6. Mistakes to avoid
When assessing the degree of innovation of a product/system/component, avoid the mistake of considering only the technical solution to characterize an innovation. Assess the novelty of its function, material, environment of use and manufacturing process. Each of these criteria can be a potential source of risk.
Don't launch an in-depth FMECA-type risk study without first applying the contents of this sheet, i.e. identifying the potentially critical items on which to focus your risk studies. Otherwise, you'll be wasting your resources and running the risk of missing out on the real risks.
