Before attempting to control a physical system (mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, chemical...), it is necessary to study the behavior of the system when it is not controlled.
First of all, we need to identify and distinguish between the input quantities we can influence, and the output quantities corresponding to the quantities we wish to control.
For example, for a tank heating system, the output variable is the tank temperature and the input variables are the external tank temperature and the electrical current of the heating resistors.
