Tooling is designed specifically for the assembly to be carried out. The way in which the part is gripped or driven is planned right from the design stage.
The design of the tooling for gripping the rotating part must comply with certain rules:
design a socket so that the part is held firmly in the tool and does not fall out, before being welded;
no protruding parts, no internal gripping of the part where possible;
rotational backlash between tool and workpiece must be minimized; this will affect angular orientation accuracy and repeatability;
the tool must be as light as possible to allow rapid...
