Maintenance management
A functional approach to maintenance

The management function plays the role of conductor. It can be performed at different levels and by different people in the maintenance department. It consists of :

• help define the company's overall objectives;

• identify needs and define maintenance policy ;

• make day-to-day decisions when presented with several alternatives;

• facilitate communication between the various functions of the maintenance system and other company functions.

It is this management function in particular :

• who selects the methods to be applied;

• which determines the organization and distribution of the workforce;

• which decides to outsource certain activities;
