Confronted with the problem of connecting two parts in relative motion, the designer must choose between the various possibilities offered by the numerous forms of sliding bearings, the different types of bearings, and even, if the motion is reciprocating, deformable elements.
This choice has to be made on a technical basis, taking into account the characteristics of the movement, the intensity of the load, the ambient conditions, and many other aspects which are sometimes less restrictive, but which may prove decisive on other occasions. In addition, this choice must not overlook the economic aspect, and therefore correspond to the least expensive solution overall.
The aim of this document is to quickly pre-select the most economical of all technically possible solutions. Subsequent calculations will be necessary to validate this choice, but in view of this pre-selection they will be limited to a restricted number of solutions. The article
