2. Description of the ISO 14001-2015 standard

2.1 General

ISO 14001-2015 has a structure common to all ISO management system standards (notably ISO 9001), with paragraphs specific to environmental management. The result is a presentation based on paragraph headings that is completely different from those of the 2004 version.

The ISO 14001-2015 standard remains based on the Deming wheel principle (see figure 1) and the PDCA concept: P (Planning), D (Do), C (Check), A (Act). This wheel doesn't move in a horizontal plane; it climbs a slope and can't go backwards to represent the concept of continuous improvement, which reflects the need to constantly improve the level of environmental compromise.
