Feedback generates knowledge about a system, knowledge deduced from its past.
It can produce assessments of system operation: number and nature of deviations, failures, costs, production.
It can produce descriptions of the operating scenarios that led to particular results (accidents, for example).
It can produce operating safety data (frequencies, severity of feared events, dispersions of a priori random values such as component uptime, etc.).
