Safer By Design : A way forward for management ?

Research into the effects of safer by design on management is abundant, but in its infancy, and international conferences on the subject are still limited to a few fields of activity. These are mainly in the medical services and engineering sectors.

This approach entails fundamental changes in the way organizations are managed, and raises questions that currently have very few answers.

Two questions are particularly important.

• The first concerns the devolution of decision-making capacity from man to machine.

  Safer by design is based on an LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) methodology, which in turn relies on algorithms that can only be processed by computers due to the computational capacity they require.
