Three types of flow are involved in a transportation network: the physical flow of packages, the paper flow of receipts and waybills, and the flow of information in the form of computer data. However, the physical movement of packages entrusted by customers remains the top priority. The main challenge is to ensure that these three distinct flows occur simultaneously and remain consistent.
The goods transported vary depending on the type of network in question and are defined by five factors: their nature, weight, dimensions, shipment structure, and frequency.
