3. Flow
Three types of flow are involved in a transport network: the physical flow of parcels, the paper flow of receipts and packing slips, and the flow of information in the form of computer data. However, the physical flow of parcels entrusted by customers remains the priority flow. The major difficulty is to ensure the concomitance and coherence of these three different flows.
3.1 Physical flow of goods
The goods transported vary according to the type of network considered, and are defined according to five parameters: their nature, weight, dimensions, shipment structure and frequency.
