Transporting goods within a given geographical area, from a shipper's home to a consignee's, i.e. fulfilling the transport contract with the customer, requires the involvement of multiple players, including the freight forwarder, the sorting center and the delivery center (figure 1 ).

  • Freight forwarder

    The freight forwarder (more rarely a carrier, except in local traffic, an appendix to network traffic) collects the parcels from the sender, sorts them on his quay according to their destination, and forwards them (by his own or chartered means) to the next point in the transport chain.
