8. Sourcing external resources
Based on a request formulated by the other functions (preparation, scheduling, resource management), the supply function covers all the actions required to satisfy the request, while respecting quality and deadlines, and minimizing costs. It involves :
search for and select suppliers based on various criteria (quality, costs, lead times, etc.);
negotiate to obtain the best conditions, particularly on rates;
draw up contracts and place orders.
In practice, depending on the organization in place, these tasks may be carried out by different people (buyer, picker, warehouseman, etc.).
