CMMS - Designing and implementing a project

Computerization of the maintenance function can only be envisaged as part of a global project implementing a structured approach. This is one of the first conditions for a successful CMMS project. It enables :

• informing future users and raising their awareness of the objectives being pursued (permanent refocusing);

• implementation of an implementation strategy with the identification of expectations and the application of the "give and take" rule;

• Involvement of all the players concerned (participative approach) in the choice of software package, and in adapting the organization and working methods;

• gradual implementation of the various modules and staff training.

The CMMS project must be carefully organized, both in terms of the choice of software package and the conditions of implementation and use.
