Once you've selected your team of internal auditors, it's vital that they practice auditing on a regular basis. Their continued competence depends on it.

You may need to develop the skills of your auditors, depending on the audit objectives and reference standards. Training courses on audit criteria (new standards, regulatory requirements, etc.) may then be considered.
