This approach to defining processes was the prevailing one for at least fifteen years. The 2008 version of the standard did not change anything in this regard or in many others.
It wasn't until the 2015 version of ISO 9001 that some changes began to emerge, though unfortunately these went unnoticed by many quality professionals.
A first step has been taken in defining the term “process” itself and in clarifying the link between processes and the quality management system. Processes are explicitly defined and implemented as means to achieve organizational objectives. This link between processes and the management system was not explicitly stated in the 2000 version.
