The traceability of measurements to national references implemented in calibration chains guarantees the quality of results.
In the temperature range, uncertainties on a carefully performed calibration within an accredited laboratory are typically ±0.05 K for temperatures below 100 K, ±0.2 K from ambient temperature to around 400 ˚C, ±0.5 K from 400 ˚C to 1,000 ˚C and ±1 ˚C to ±2 ˚C beyond that.
It is more difficult to give figures for the uncertainties associated with calibrations carried out in industrial metrology laboratories, as these uncertainties depend far too much on the very diverse nature of the instruments to be calibrated and the calibration or measurement conditions.
