3. Temperature calibration chain
Two national laboratories are responsible for temperatures: LNE-INM, for metrological activities on units (the kelvin) and temperature scales, and LNE, for the transfer of national temperature references.
Connecting a temperature measuring instrument means establishing its traceability to the national temperature reference. The connection technique depends on both the temperature range and the final accuracy required.
The kelvin is defined as the fraction 1/273.16 of the thermodynamic temperature of the triple point of water. In practice, however, temperature references are the materialization of the International Temperature Scale of 1990 (ITS-90) above 0.65 K
