2. Turbotransmissions for railway applications
Voith turbotransmissions are transmissions with several hydrodynamic circuits (converters, couplings, retarders) in which power is transmitted over the entire operating range solely according to the principles developed by Professor Föttinger. At the same time, there is no mechanical connection between the transmission input and output shafts. They are driven by a diesel engine and deliver power to the vehicle's axles via cardan shafts and drive axles. As a result, vibrations generated by the diesel engine are not transmitted to the vehicle wheels, and wheel/rail impacts are not transmitted to the diesel engine. The entire driveline is protected.
