INTRODUCTION
Sustainable design refers to the design of a product, service, or process with characteristics that are sustainable over time from an economic, social/societal, and environmental perspective. In the same vein, eco-innovation is a specific type of innovation that aims to create value for the customer and the company that is sustainable over time from these three perspectives.
The objectives of this fact sheet are:
to outline the challenges and key principles of sustainable design for products, services, or processes, such as the circular economy, eco-design, eco-innovation, and life cycle environmental impact accounting;
to propose six areas for consideration in eco-innovation or sustainable design.
