11.1 From the emergence of a problem to the co-construction of a project and action: the "local plant" labelled seed project
While the research was underway, in 2014 and 2015, vineyards suffered considerable water stress, with harvests dropping by up to 30%, causing great tension among winegrowers. They had just committed over 40 hectares to zero herbicide use, opting for a mechanical solution – ploughing – or planting hawkweed. In both cases, these newly implemented practices exacerbated water stress, as the plough destroyed vine roots growing just below the surface
