To carry out an incremental innovation, you need to choose one or more areas of development. You can :

Select a product, component or function on which you want to innovate incrementally (e.g. reduce a vehicle's fuel consumption by 10%, improve the range of WIFI by 10%, increase the availability rate from 95% to 96%, etc.).

Select a standard for which you want to anticipate developments (personal dosimetry for nuclear operators, etc.).

Select sources of costs that are unnecessary or poorly valued by the customer:

• product functions are regulated but little or not used by customers ;

• functions provided by several product components (e.g. speed measurement in a vehicle's gearbox, airbag system, parking sensors, ABS);
