Shipping is the most efficient means of transport in terms of energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions: transporting a ton of goods over one kilometer in fact represents a consumption of 150 kJ and emissions of 5 g of CO 2 , compared with around 200 kJ and 15 g of CO 2 for rail, just over 2,400 kJ and 65 g for road and almost 7,000 kJ and 500 g with air
