As a designer, you're used to considering the use of new materials combining qualities such as resistance, aesthetics or feel. When it comes to eco-design, however, you need to take into account other selection criteria, such as :
distance covered by materials (to be minimized) ;
renewability of materials (to be increased) ;
energy stored by materials from extraction to finished product (to be minimized);
emissions and waste during extraction and production (to be minimized);
the fraction of recycled material in the product (to be increased) ;
recyclability of materials used (to be increased).
