5. Mistakes to avoid
Open innovation is not a solution for everything: whether it's to improve "time to market", access skills and technologies not held in-house, or share costs and risks, open innovation seems to appeal to many companies. This does not mean, however, that in-house monitoring should be neglected.
Neglecting top-down and bottom-up approaches: this means bringing global strategy into line with innovation strategy, by encouraging internal processes for feeding back opportunities, perceived for example by business units close to the field, and the construction of the future by general management, supported by coherent structures.
