3. Network Deployment: Layers 2 and 3
This chapter discusses another approach that involves implementing hybridization directly within the network, via Layer 2 or Layer 3 mechanisms of the OSI model.
Data-link-layer hybridization can be viewed as the combined use of all the physical links connecting two separate switches.
If each of the two switches has 5 available 10 Gbps interfaces, the maximum throughput between the two switches can increase from 10 Gbps to 50 Gbps. This mechanism is illustrated in Figure
3
