3. Multi-wavelength PON
The G.9802 standard describes multiple-wavelength PONs (MW-PONs), which can be:
an overlay of TDM-PON systems within a single ODN, where each TDM-PON operates on different wavelengths. The transceivers may use wavelength-tunable components;
a TDM-PON with tunability capabilities;
a PON based on wavelength division multiplexing (WDM), where ONUs operate on different wavelengths to provide logical point-to-point connectivity (PtP WDM, Point-to-Point WDM);
a hybrid system that combines these and other options.
