As shown by the various numerical examples in the Microphones article [E 5 160] of this treatise, a pressure transducer consisting solely of a mechanoelectrically coupled system can only operate linearly in a very small frequency range. The use of such a transducer as a microphone (or loudspeaker), capable of operating homogeneously across the entire audible spectrum, can only be envisaged after the addition of acoustic circuits perfectly adapted to the desired performance.
