7. Concluding remarks
From the first GPUs with unified architecture in 2007 to the GPUs of 2017, this type of processor has made the most spectacular progress, as shown in figure 7 and table 2. While retaining its initial role for graphics display, the GPU has become an essential player in massively parallel computing. Although this article has only presented the evolution of high-end GPUs, these are also present in mobile systems, where energy performance is paramount.
