OpenCL (Open Computing Language) was originally the result of an effort by Apple teams to simplify multicore development. Apple subsequently promoted its adoption by giving management of the OpenCL specification to the Khronos Group consortium, which also manages the OpenGL specification. OpenGL is a graphics rendering programming interface that has become a standard today. The Khronos Group consortium includes manufacturers such as NVIDIA, AMD, Intel, Sony and Apple. The aim of the Khronos Group is to produce specifications that are made public and freely usable on a large number of platforms (ARM, Intel, AMD, NVIDIA).
