2. Performance and performance indicators

Microprocessor performance is a key element in the competition between suppliers of microprocessors and suppliers of systems based on these microprocessors, or on microprocessors reserved for their own use (also known as proprietary).

2.1 Benchmarks

Performance is measured using benchmarks. Benchmarks are programs, often of limited size, which are intended to be representative of application characteristics. There are different categories of benchmarks, depending on the class of application, and we will examine them below.
