4. Division of signed integers
They divide a 2n-bit integer by an n-bit integer to provide quotient and remainder (n-bit integers).
Different approaches are used for instruction sets:
the IDIV instruction (IA-32 and Intel 64) divides 2n-bit numbers (16, 32, 64) by n-bit numbers (8, 16, 32) and provides the result of the division and the n-bit remainder in two different registers;
RISC-V's M extension features signed division (DIV) and signed remainder (REM) instructions with dividend, divisor, result and remainder on 32 bits.
