3.1 Localized corrosion
Another aspect of the corrosion resistance of nickel alloys is their resistance to localized corrosion. There are many types of localized corrosion: erosion corrosion, intergranular corrosion, stress corrosion, fatigue corrosion, friction corrosion, pitting corrosion and crevice corrosion. In this article, we will focus on the last two types. Nickel alloys –, in particular Ni-Cr-Mo alloys –, are often chosen for their resistance to these types of corrosion.
