4.1 Callovo-Oxfordian argillite

The Callovo-Oxfordian argillite, located between – 420 and – 540 m from the Earth's surface, is the host rock for geological disposal of long-lived intermediate-level and high-level radioactive waste packages. Argillite, the excavated soil, is mainly composed of clay minerals (52.0%, illite, interlayered illite – smectite and chlorite), tectosilicates (19.0%, quartz, potassium feldspar and plagioclase) and carbonate species (22.2%, calcite and dolomite)
