4. Valuation methods

The importance of coatings in the final quality of metal packaging has led to the development of numerous testing methods, both for routine production control and for the selection and development of new coatings.

4.1 Physical properties

  • Film thickness: an essential characteristic of the application, it is traditionally measured by weight (for example, 5 to 7 g/m 2 for a common epoxy-phenolic varnish) or electrically (the varnish is a dielectric whose capacity is a function of thickness).
