4. Defects caused by die-cutting

These defects are of two types:

  • apparent defects leading to glass scrapping;

  • Invisible or inconspicuous defects that could lead to removal or subsequent breakage.

4.1 Apparent defects

  • Edge bevel: skewed edge cut due to non-homogeneous annealing, this bevel is more frequent on thicker materials (12 to 19 mm).

  • Broken beaks and corners: these are caused by the fracture deviating outside the tracing line (too slight a groove).

  • Shark's teeth: staircase steps consisting of slightly inclined planes separated by steep surfaces. This defect...
